One of the many Aboriginal place names in the region, Burringbar is named for a specialised type of boomerang used as a striking stick.

Best known for the rather winding road around the range of the same name, the village is a quiet stop-off point with general store, butcher, fire station, art gallery and petrol available, along with roadside fruit stalls. A pretty park with an historic monument marks the centre of the town.

Burringbar Village marks the halfway point on the popular tourist route between Murwillumbah and Byron Bay.
